Request for Suggestion on ideal way to disconnect session

Postby Jeemit » Thu 10 Jan 2013, 04:57

Dear Team,

I have just started using TSO region.
After that when I did F3 from ISPF, it asks for retaining or deletion of userid.SPFLOG1.LIST dataset.
I choose deletion of dataset.

and then I logged off my session.
While doing so got below pop message,
"!Connection to server has been lost(Time out)"

So my question is
1) What is your suggestion, we should keep JZ2109.SPFLOG1.LIST dataset or delete?
2) Logging off, autoatically Disconnect my session.
Is this right way I am disconnecting the session?

In short, I have post this topic, in order to know, ideal way to disconnect from session.

In my opinion, you are doing everything right.

Keeping the SPF log data set is up to you. It is possible to set the default, by the way, so you don't get the annoying screen you described. In the past I kept it. From time to time I'd go back to it to remind me what I did, but keeping it had its own set of problems, like x37 ABENDs from time to time, usually at the worst possible time. On Fandezhi I just delete it at the end of the SPF session. It's not worth the aggravation of managing the logs.

Fandezhi drops the internet connection when you logoff, which is pretty standard. The exact messages you see after the disconnect depends on the emulator you use.

From 2000 through 2008 the emulator connected me to a session manager, which, in turn, led me to several different TSO systems, a CICS system (which I used, but had no influence of its setup or programming), a couple of zVM systems of which I was an unwilling user, and a couple of IDMS systems. Obviously this was a much richer environment than Fandezhi. One nice thing about the session manager: if the session manager connection got lost I could log back in to the session manager and I'd have the sessions back, unlike Fandezhi where you lose a session, more often than not the session is gone for good.

Well, that's my 2 cents. By my clock it's my bed time. Good night!
