There are two possibilities.
  • Hercules. It must be clearly understood: Hercules emulates the z/Architecture hardware. After you install Hercules you must obtain and install an operating system that can operate the z/Architecture hardware. Essentially all modern operating system such as z/OS are copyrighted by IBM and cannot legally run on your PC. It is relatively easy to obtain pirated copies of z/OS, but only an early version of MVS can legally run on Hercules. After you have installed the operating system you must obtain and install the Cobol compiler. Fandezhi uses Hercules.
  • z390. z390 is another emulator, though less comprehensive than Hercules. Google z390 Cobol. and you will come up with http://www.z390.org/zcobol/. I suspect it is less difficult to install than Hercules and a pirated version of z/OS.
