Use of VSAM

Postby maltz99 » Sat 06 Feb 2016, 20:16

Is there anything I need to know before I start to set up VSAM catalogs and small datasets in order to test functions and errors that are not clearly documented. I don't want to create RACF errors or upset anyone because I didn't understand the rules.

As long as the VSAM datasets have MALTZ99 (educated guess  ) as their HLQ, there are no restrictions.

BTW, you seem to have a few rather humongous datasets. Are they still required, and if not can you delete them.

Thanks for response.

My largest dataset is under 50 cyls, is this humongous ?
I'd prefer to keep them, or I could divide them into smaller pieces.
What is your current max size per dataset or max alloc per user...I'll try to conform.

There are no rules, just do a dslist on my userid and scroll right/left a few times. Then again, I'm an admin

Your datasets seem to be encrypted and/or compressed, and that's a bit suspicious in this day and age. FanDeZhi isn't really a place to store your data, there are dedicated sites to do so, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive to name but a few.
