Postby michel123 » Wed 29 Sep 2010, 15:10

Hello,

I would like to create a DB2 database by creating a personnal STOGROUP. What Volume use (Z6DB81, USRxxx,... )? What VSAM catalog use?

Thank you.

Is this STOGROUP term an incorrect abbreviation for a System Managed Storage (SMS) Storage Group, or is it some sort of DB2 term? If it is an SMS storage group the fandezhi system administrator would have to create it. If it's some sort of DB2 concept I'd guess the manager of the DB2 system would have to create it.

Hello Steve,

This is the notion DB2.

To simplify this, can I then use an existing stogroup for my tests?

Otherwise, what person of the Dezhi Systems that could create my own STOGROUP (sysprog, prino, sfan)?

You can quite likely do it yourself. As for the volume, use one of the USRxxx'es, and keep it only as big as you need it.

Hello Robert,

Finally, I can not create my STOGROUP, because I do not know what VSAM catalog to use on Dezhi.

You can find out the catalog where your data sets are cataloged by using this command -

listcat all ent('your-userid')

listcat all ent('xxxxxx')
ALIAS --------- XXXXXX
IN-CAT --- CATALOG.Z16.MASTER
HISTORY
RELEASE----------------2
ASSOCIATIONS
USERCAT--CATALOG.USERS6.UCAT

Your data sets are cataloged in CATALOG.USERS6.UCAT.

Hello Steve,

Yes, it is LISTCAT, that I have to pass, after registration of my files.

But what I wanted to do, by creating my STOGROUP DB2, is follow the order of creation CREATE, and correctly name the VCAT parameter correctly with the proper test VSAM catalog. (VCAT = ????). Here, we must give the alias of a catalog user.

Can I create one, or give one of those already on the machine. For example, CATALOG.USERS6.UCAT?

I would have the following DB2 command :

CREATE STOGROUP STRGRP01
VOLUMES (FUSR0A)
VCAT CATALOG.USERS6.UCAT

My English is really not very good, and I have a lot of trouble understanding the subtleties of the language of Shakespeare.

See you soon.

Michel.
