Dezhi Systems funding Q&A

Postby sfan » Fri 10 Dec 2010, 21:57

Q: What is Dezhi Systems
A: Originally Dezhi Systems was raised by a group of computer fans including top-notch Mainframe talents, Unix administrators, programmers as well as ERP specialists. We shared the service in order to offer a platform for non-commercial IT lovers. So that everyone can share knowledge, skills and job opportunities

Q: Why Dezhi Systems needs funding
A: Dezhi Systems has a bunch servers to maintain. By the time going most of the servers will retire and new hardware need to be purchased. We have heard a lot of feedback talking about the slow performance and unstable environment. Unfortunately due to the huge expense we cannot afford the best hardware as well as maintenance. We need your help!

Q: Has Dezhi Systems ever upgraded?
A: Yes. In the past few years we have upgraded several times. Each time it cost a lot of money and time. But thanks to our volunteers, it's been smooth and no data lost. Recently we have upgraded the server again so that you should have seen the speed increased up to 10x!

Q: Do I have to donate before using the system?
A: Not at all. You can remain using the system being a guest. However you're very welcome to donate and your name will show in the "proudly donation" list.

Q: How can I donate?
A: Dezhi systems will receive donation via the PAYPAL or e-transfer to fandezhi@efglobe.com

Q: Is there any minimum or maximum amount I need to donate?
A: Donation is going to be used via a PAYPAL account. So as long as paypal accept it, that will be OK. $5, $10, $100, or $1000, or 1M, donate more, the system will perform better!

Q: Is PAYPAL safe? Will my private info leak?
A: PAYPAL is the most popular and safest way of sending/receiving money. Everyday there are thousands of transactions thru PAYPAL, from all kinds of online-shoppings like Amazon and eBay

Q: Will the funding be used for commercial activities?
A: Dezhi Systems is a non-profit organization. So all the funding will be used for hardware maintenance only.

Q: Can you show the donation list?
A: Yes. The list will be updated in a monthly basis. Below is the most up to date list:

Raul Betancourt
John Gateley
SANATH SEKHARREDDY N
Eoin Woods

How do we know this is a legitimate request? That our CC number or PP account is safe?
Just asking. I admire the site!

How do you ever know that anything you pay with PayPal is genuine? PayPal only passes on the money, never a CC number. Been using it for eBay for about a decade, never had any problems with it, and I made a donation to this site, will see it sometime in the future in the list of people who did the same (or so I hope...)

I WOULD like to donate, I have credit card, DO NOT want a pay pal account. (when I clicked on the button, it had someone else's account set up for 9.99) Please tell me how I can donate, going thru paypal, using a credit care (United States) but not set up a pay pal account?

I know that you can use PayPal for a donation without having to set up an account. That is what I (and maybe others) want to do. Donate, use credit card, use paypal but Not set up an account. Can you do this for me?

When you click the donate button, the PayPal screen you get is the one you need. The email address that is given, liyagang(a)hotmail(d)com, is the email address of the person the money will be going to and the CAD 9.99 are pre-filled via the form (look at the source of the FanDeZhi page).

I think, in a grey past, it was possible to make PayPal donations via a CC without actually having to set up an account, but regulatory requirements have put a stop to this. I created an account a very long time (2003 or so) ago and although I was a bit weary at first, I've never had any problems with it. You could always delete the account the moment you have made your donation, and I think you can also remove the credit card once you've created an account.
